More Affordable Audi e-tron 50 Quattro On Sale
The new Audi e-tron 50 Quattro is now on sale and beats the existing e-tron model on price by around £12,000. Audi's first electric SUV has a new member of the family, with the Audi 50 model introduced below the 55 Quattro model. The new model is available in Technik, Sport and S Line trim levels, with an additional Launch Edition option available for those looking for something extra. The smaller model might offer slightly less power than its older brother, but it also charges more quickly. In fact, it's twice as fast to charge as the 55 Quattro.
There are both similarities and differences when comparing the new 50 Quattro to the existing e-tron. The entry-level Audi e-tron 50 Quattro features a 71kWh battery and two electric motors, which give priority to the rear axle. It offers up to 190 miles on one charge, less than the almost 250 miles of the 55. However, it can charge to 80% in just 30 minutes with a 120kW fast-charger, whereas the 55 takes over an hour to do the same. It can do zero to 60 in seven seconds, with 309 bhp and a top speed of 118 mph, just slightly less than the 124 mph of the 55's top speed. The e-tron 50 Quattro has a lower weight, weighing around 120kg less than the e-tron 55, and newly calibrated drivetrain, delivering optimum efficiency to drivers.
More than 90% of the deceleration actions allow the car to recuperate energy, adding to the car's efficiency. The car is in rear-wheel-drive most of the time, but some power can be sent to the front wheels when needed. There is an optional connect charging system, which enables faster charging during off-peak hours. The myAudi smartphone app also makes it possible to control charging, set timers, and preheat or pre-cool the cabin. An efficiency assistant boosts the efficiency even further, with other features making the car easier to drive and control, such as adaptive cruise control. It also includes radar sensors, Car-to-X information sharing, and the Audi Virtual Cockpit. The base Technik model comes with 20" alloy wheels, LED headlamps, and contrast finish bumpers.
Leather upholstered seats include electronically-adjusted and heated front seats, plus there's technology including MMI Navigation Plus, Audi Smartphone, and Audi Music. Sports seats are offered in the Sport line, upholstered in Valcona leather, plus additional Audi music access for rear passengers and Audi Phonebox wireless charging. Changes in style plus sports suspension ramp up the S line, with 21" wheels and Matrix LED headlamps. The special Launch Edition features a panoramic sunroof, virtual door mirrors, and a 360-degree camera system.
A range of add-ons is available, too, from 4-zone climate control to a night vision system.Prices for the Audi e-tron 50 Quattro start at £59,9000, without the government grant available for electric cars.
