Audi e-tron all-electric SUV is finalist in 2019 World Car of the Year Award

audi e tron

The Audi e-Tron has been making headlines ever since it was first released. This is the first and only model out of the Audi electric vehicles that’s fully electric. Yes, they have some cars that take advantage of the Audi PHEV hybrid technology, but the e-Tron is powered only by electricity.

It’s a landmark achievement for the brand and shows their commitment to moving towards a greener future. What’s more, the big news is that the Audi e-Tron has been nominated for the 2019 World Car of the Year Award. It’s such an impressive feat, particularly when you look at the other cars it's up against.

The only all-electric car shortlisted

What’s striking about this car’s nomination is that it is the only car on the list that’s fully-electric. A few have hybrid options, but this Audi electric car is flying the flag for electric vehicles all over the world. It’s a very momentous achievement as it shows that the e-Tron is much more than just a gimmick be nominated for this prestigious award and it shows the car must be packing some fantastic features.

Innovation personified

Regardless of what model you buy, you know that all Audi cars come with unique technology coursing through their veins. Audi hybrid vehicles take things to a new level, but the e-Tron blows them all out of the park.

This is the first car from Audi to have virtual wing mirrors, which essentially means you have cameras there inside of an actual mirror. This gives you more options as you can toggle the focus, zoom in on things, widen the angle, and so on.

There’s also the amazing pre sense 360-degree technology that continually monitors your vehicle and automatically protects you if any dangers are present. This includes automatic braking assist, turn assist to help you evade obstacles, and much more.

Of course, electric power is the main event in this stunning car. You get 300kW of power from two batteries that can get you from 0-60 in a little under 6 seconds. That’s incredible when you consider this is a compact SUV! The batteries can also last for 248 miles on one charge, so there’s longevity here that you struggle to match in other electric vehicles.

A highly sought-after award

The World Car of the Year award is part of The World Car Awards, which is known as one of the most hotly anticipated awards ceremonies in the auto industry. A jury of 86 international journalists and experts draw up the shortlists and make the final choice. It’s a sought-after award that every manufacturer wants to get their hands on.

Volvo currently holds the title with the XC60 winning in 2018, but the revolutionary e-Tron and its tech-fuelled genius might just bring the award back to Germany for Audi in 2019.
